Antarctica is often seen as distant and abstract – a frozen wilderness far removed from daily life. In reality, what happens there affects everyone.
When the COVID-19 pandemic closed borders worldwide, a team of just 24 people found themselves stranded through the Antarctic winter – with no evacuation timeline and no certainty about when, or how, they would return home.
In this keynote, David shares what it was like to lead through 537 days of isolation at the edge of the world. He explores how leadership shifts when control disappears, how resilience becomes a daily choice rather than an abstract concept, and how small decisions compound under sustained pressure.
More than a survival story, 537 Days of Winter is about people. How teams cope with uncertainty. How leaders maintain trust, morale, and focus when the future is unknowable. And how perspective changes when there is no option but to adapt.
This keynote is reflective, deeply human, and highly relevant for leaders navigating prolonged uncertainty, change, or disruption.
